PRESS RELEASE 20/2/17

TRUTH, JUSTICE & ACCOUNTABILITY RALLY

IN MEMORY OF SEANPAUL CARNAHAN

1/9/90 – 19/7/13

On Saturday 11 March 2017, outside Belfast City Hall at 3pm, there will be a truth, justice & accountability rally in memory of Seanpaul Carnahan.

His mother, Tracy Carnahan, has enlisted the help of suicide awareness & support group SOS Silence of Suicide, whose founders, Michael Mansfield QC & his partner Yvette Greenway, who is also the spokeswoman for the rally, first heard Seanpaul’s tragic story at an SOS meeting in Belfast last year.

On the 8th March 2013, 22 year old SeanPaul from Belfast, made a failed attempt to end his life by suicide.

As if this weren’t tragic enough, both SeanPaul and his family suffered another four months of pain and despair before he finally died in hospital on 19 July 2013.  Tracy has since recorded a harrowing podcast detailing the tragic timeline of events which you can listen to at http://www.sossilenceofsuicide.org/…/podcast-personal-rep…/

Tracy has no doubt who is to blame for her son’s ‘slow and cruel death’ and points the finger firmly at Belfast City Hospital, who, she says, placed Seanpaul on the Liverpool Care Pathway without her knowledge and which she believes engaged in a regime of ‘systematic and agonizing starvation’ against her son.

Seanpaul was one of 6 children and it was his older brother who thinks his suicide attempt may have happened after he’d taken the ‘legal high’ drug China White, although as no drugs tests were ever run on Seanpaul no-one can be certain that he was under the influence of anything.

Why Seanpaul attempted to take his life is one story.  Why he was apparently failed by the medical profession and, subsequently, Tracy believes, the Coroner, is another and one which tracy is keen to bring into the public arena, not just for Seanpaul’s sake, but for the benefit of others who feel their own experiences do not demonstrate the truth, justice & accountability we are all entitled to expect.

Tracy says ‘The inquest was a farce and insult to Seanpaul, me and his brothers and sisters…It seems the coroner service will not tell the truth about hospital deaths and supports the hospital in their cover up.

Please support our rally in Seanpaul’s memory and our protest about his treatment at the hands of Belfast City Hospital.  We also want to put an end to the use of Liverpool Care Pathway & the use of joint protocols which protect the doctors & hospital from any proper investigation’ .

Seanpaul’s family hope his story will encourage a large level of rally support and are asking people to register their attendance via this website under the EVENTS tag.

We all look forward to seeing you at this important rally.
